The Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training for Registered Nurses and Midwives is an interactive session, incorporating theoretical instruction and simulated practical application.

Course Outline

Participants will:

  • engage with theory training regarding counselling and assessment prior to inserting the contraceptive implant
  • develop an understanding of administration of local anaesthetic, insertion and removal procedure, and management of complications
  • demonstrate practical learning with simulated training on model arms
  • learn about the management of complications and bleeding changes with Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives

SHINE SA is currently offering the Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training as an online course for SA doctors, registered nurses and midwives in the rural and remote workforce.

This course will only be open to clinicians who work predominantly within a rural zone (Modified Monash Model 3 to 5, check classification here: Health Workforce Locator). Course dates have not been finalised but will take place in 2021.

The course will be of no cost to participants and has been made possible by funding from Country SA PHN through the Enhancing Sexual Health in Country SA Program.
