FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors

This comprehensive course for doctors will expand your knowledge and develop practical skills in the delivery of sexual and reproductive health care.

The FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors is a nationally accredited course consisting of a 5-day theoretical module followed by 7 to 9 clinical training sessions.

The FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors is awarded on successful completion of both the theoretical and clinical modules.

Please note: This certificate does not include certification in IUD or contraceptive implant insertion training. SHINE SA offers the following: IUD Insertion Training and Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Insertion Training.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the theoretical component you must have:

  • a minimum of one year’s postgraduate experience in community based general practice or obstetrics & gynaecology

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements but feel you have previous experience that is relevant to the course, you can apply for recognition of prior learning. Please submit a summary of this experience (no more than a single page) to courses@shinesa.org.au with a covering email.

 

To be eligible for the clinical training sessions you must:

  • have an interest in reproductive and sexual health and have basic experience in gynaecological examination
  • be currently working in a field that will allow you to reinforce clinical training, such as community based general practice or O&G
  • have current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner, contraceptive implant certification and current DCSI child related screening

 

Clinical training sessions take place after completion of the 5-day theory course. The sessions are direct hands-on training at SHINE SA clinics, with support from senior SHINE SA clinicians.

SHINE SA is a secondary referral centre for sexual and reproductive health. The clinics will extend your practical skills and knowledge.

Clinical training is applied for on the assumption of the above eligibility criteria and can be refused or terminated due to lack of basic competency.

 

ACCREDITATION / RECOGNITION

The FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors is awarded on successful completion of both the theoretical and clinical modules.

A SHINE SA Statement of Attendance is awarded to participants who have completed the theory module.

  • This education is a CPD Accredited Activity under the RACGP CPD Program for the 2020-2022 Triennium
  • This activity is accredited with ACRRM

Clinical Training Sessions (Clinical Placement): $1000
Only applicable upon completion of the theory module within the last 12 months
