Community Sector Workers

FReedom to Explore Sexual Health (FRESH) Course

SHINE SA offers the FRESH course, ReFRESH Forums and other modules providing opportunities for workers and students to explore their own attitudes towards sexual health and relationships education, so that they will be better placed to support their clients.

While at this time our courses are targeted at workers and students in the Community Services and Health sectors in specific areas (Youth and Community Work; Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health), people from other sectors may also find them valuable. Please note we can also develop and provide tailored training for your specific sector or workplace.

FRESH aims to provide workers with an increased level of knowledge and confidence when working with clients and colleagues in the area of sexual and reproductive health and relationships education. Many activities and resources explored within SHINE SA’s training courses can be adapted by participants for later use with their own clients and/or community groups.

SHINE SA Youth and Community Newsletter

Our regular newsletter will keep you up-to-date on the latest news and education opportunities related to sexual health.

The FRESH Courses are face-to-face programs which are completed in a 2- or 3-day period.

Topics include: Sexuality & Sexual Health; Sex & the Law; Gender & Power; Sexual Diversity; Anatomy & Physiology; Contraception; Pregnancy Options; Sexual Violence; Sexual Pleasure; Safer Sex; Sexually Transmitted Infections; Providing sexual health information to clients.

Content will normally be tailored to the specific issues facing each broad client and worker group, and introduce participants to a range of resources they can use with their communities of interest.

  • Metropolitan FRESH courses will normally target workers in a specific sector with particular client groups, although all workers (and students in relevant areas) are welcome to attend any FRESH course.
  • FRESH courses in rural or remote areas may be negotiated for either specific worker groups or mixed worker groups (contact to enquire about FRESH Rural and Remote).
  • Some online learning and interaction may also be included.

Concessions now apply for full time students (proof of full time status will be required).
